Unemployment can be seen as when a person who is willing and able to work or be employed is unable to find a job. Majority of people in "underdeveloped" countries face employment challenges and Nigeria is not an exception.
Over the years our policy makers have expressed "great concern" over the matter, but very little has been done as statistics show. In fact it’s as if the more concern they show the worse it gets.
As at 2006 the unemployment rate was at 12% of the working age population, and by 2011, Unemployment rates in Nigeria stood at 23.9% with youth unemployment rate at over 50%, this means that at that particular year 50% of the graduates produced by Nigeria where jobless.
so lets do the maths Nigeria has over 60 Universities graduating at least 5000 people yearly(some uni's graduate much more than this figure and some Uni's graduate less so working with this figure as an average)
60 universities X 5000 graduates = 300 000 graduates this figure does not capture people graduated from Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, Monotechnics
This means that as at 2011, at least 150 000 fresh graduates where unemployed. This really scares me, it is even scarier to learn that as at the 2012 the figure grew by 2.3% and still we are yet to witness massive employment directed policies.
1.      Why can’t foreign companies in Nigeria be given a quot-er of Nigerian expected of them to employ.
2.      Why cant the retirement age be reduced, it really crazy that a country with employment challenges would be increasing retirement age.
3.      Interest Rate for start up business could be lowered.
4.      And social securities can be set up for the unemployed.
But day after day billions are invested on unproductive causes, like the 1 billion used for “peace and women empowerment” jamboree. Yet millions of our Youths waste away daily with no means of livelihood, some of whom are the hope for a better life for their family.
So as youths what do us then do, do we fold our hands and wait and pray for a better future, or pursue a post graduate degree for those that can afford one .Recently some schools have adopted screening exercise for its post graduate programs thus making it more exclude able.

So I ask why would crime rates not increase, like they say the idle man na devil workshop,So since most our fathers have failed us,is it not up to us to provide for our sons and daughters the better Nigeria we wish for,2015 approaches the choice is ours to make, and the consequences ours to bear. These are my Thoughts,Please share yours.

Borno and Boko

Boko Haram At least 13 persons were reportedly killed when members of the infamous terrorist group, Boko Haram, attacked Damboa Village, about 85 km north of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The attack happened on the night of August 15, 2013, Thursday.
According to Ayamu Gwasha, who represents Konduga in the Borno State House of Assembly, the alleged Boko Haram gunmen invaded the agrarian village famous for producing most of the grocery requirements of the state at about 7.30 p.m.; and attacked several places including the security formations.
“Our people have been killed last night by these people. We had anticipated this attack, because we are border neighbour to Konduga where 44 persons were killed early this week, that was why we immediately alerted the security agencies for security beef up, which was being considered before they attacked,” said Mr. Gwasha.
Another source, representing security forces, name and position withheld, confirmed the incident.
“The incident happened at about 7.30 p.m. About 50 Boko Haram terrorists drove into Damboa in nine Volkswagen Golf cars and four motorcycles. They attacked Damboa police station, but the officers there effectively repelled them; they also attempted attacking the military post in the town but the soldiers also repelled them. While that was going on, another group were busy attacking the village and burning some of the houses.
“After the attack, which lasted till 12 a.m., eleven civilians died, two members of the Boko Haram were killed by the police,” said the security source.
“About 20 houses including that of the local government chairman and several shops were burnt down. The terrorists had also looted most of the shops and filled a truck with food items, but they were not lucky to escape with the loot as the laden vehicle got stuck in the muddy road.”
A local farmer, Mustapha Aji, who was lucky enough to escaped through the bushes to Maiduguri town, told the reporters that villagers had to flee their homes and spend the night in the bushes while the attack was going on. He said he believed that foreign mercenaries were among the terrorists who attacked.
“The shooting was too much; it started immediately after the Isha (late night) prayers. The shooters came in several cars and began to shoot and burning houses and shops. Some of them are aliens, because they were speaking Arab fluently. They were carrying big, big guns, some were throwing bombs. Everywhere was on fire I had to run for my life,” said 46-year-old Mr. Aji.
Damboa had suffered several similar attacks in the past one year which led to killing of several persons and destruction of properties.
Mr. Sagir Musa, the spokesman of JTF in Borno, could not be reached on the latest attack, as his telephone numbers are not available due to network problems in Borno.

My THOUGHTS: Its a big pity that on several occasions our security personels has failed us time without number. I thought Borno was on state of emergancy and as such should have heavy security personel presence. If our security has failed us must we fail our selves, what good do we hope to achieve by killing people. Why have people not been sacked? i hope there know that killing themself reduces their chances in 2015 since it reduces their population. Your thoughts?
